Punjab Becomes First Polio-Free Province Of Pakistan

LAHORE: Punjab has been announced as the first Polio-Free Province of Pakistan samples collected and tested against poliovirus from various cities came out negative.

The environmental samples were collected through the sewerage water from several cities across Punjab, including Lahore.

“This is a monumental achievement of the Punjab government, made possible through Allah Almighty’s blessing and teamwork. The efforts made by the provincial health department and anti-polio teams are praiseworthy,” said Usman Buzdar, the Chief Minister of Punjab.

The chief minister swore that the anti-polio vaccination campaign would protect and prevent future generations from life-threatening ailments. He added that vaccine is crucial in preventing disabilities amongst children, and hence, children in Punjab are being given anti-polio drops alongside the Measles and Rubella immunisations.

“Pakistan’s anti-polio program has initiated amazing vaccine drives, even during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he had said. He had thanked the team, emphasising that all resources are put towards a Polio Free Pakistan.
