Pneumonia surge claims 12 more kids’ lives in Punjab

LAHORE: The persistent threat of pneumonia in Punjab has caused death of 12 more children over the past 24 hours.

The provincial health department says the victims, aged between two months and 12 years, succumbed to the disease, as reported by private news channels.

It adds that the recent statistics show the severity of the situation, with 491 new cases of pneumonia reported in Punjab during the same (24-hour) period.

In Lahore, the situation is particularly alarming as 230 children have been confirmed to have contracted the disease within the same timeframe.

This year alone, the total number of children affected by pneumonia in Punjab has soared to 194, with Lahore recording 45 cases. Pneumonia, characterized by an infection leading to inflammation in the air sacs of the lungs, continues to pose a significant public health challenge.

Symptoms of pneumonia include cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and breathing difficulties, with potentially severe consequences.

The rising number of cases demands urgent attention and concerted efforts from health authorities to address the situation and implement effective preventive measures.
