Punjab govt hospitals face severe shortage of medicines and anaesthesia

LAHORE: In provincial government hospitals in Lahore, shortages of medications and anaesthetic injections continue to affect patients.

Patients and their families at the Mayo Hospital in Lahore are beginning to purchase medications from the market since the hospital has been out of stock for days.

According to sources at Mayo and Jinnah hospitals, surgeries and procedures have stalled due to a lack of anaesthetic injections.

However, MS Dr Khalid of General Hospital told a local reporter that the facility had loaned around 300 doses of anaesthesia to Mayo and Jinnah hospitals.

The management of Mayo Hospital reports that drugs have not yet been acquired, but patients will begin receiving medications as soon as the supply is ready.

On the other side, the Punjab Health Department has been silent over the drug scarcity at Mayo Hospital. The shortage of fever, epilepsy, liver, blood pressure and blood thinners has persisted for the last three months, according to the proprietors of medical supply stores.
