SHCC slapped Rs 2.6 million fine on hospitals

KARACHI: SHCC imposed heavy fines on healthcare facilities in Sindh.

Fines on hospitals by SHCC were done under the supervison of Justice (R) Hassan Feroz.

Under the supervision of Justice (R) Hassan Feroz, the eleventh meeting of the Sindh Healthcare Commission's Complaint Management & Legal Committee was held at the Sindh Healthcare Commission Head Office in Karachi.

Issues raised during SHCC Meeting 


During the SHCC meeting, the committee reviewed 13 concerns. 


Seven healthcare providers and six healthcare establishments were fined 2,600,000 rupees, while the immediate closure/sealing of one HCE and rectification actions were recommended for eight healthcare establishments.


The penalties were imposed for excessive delays in the provision of medical care, failure to obtain informed consent, undertaking the management of patients without the availability of requisite competence, human resource, equipment, and other facilities, inability to provide postoperative care, and failure to anticipate and take comprehensive preventive measures against potential complications, system failures, and possible mishaps that resulted in the deaths of patients and grievous bodily harm.


The SHCC is attempting to enhance necessary healthcare delivery so that these errors are not repeated in the future.
