The late Dr. Sheikh Kaiser Waheed was a distinguished pharmaceutical entrepreneur, industry leader, and healthcare advocate whose contributions to Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector spanned corporate leadership, industry development, healthcare infrastructure, and public health advocacy.
As President and Chief Executive Officer of Medisure Laboratories Pakistan and CEO of Medisure Pharma International, he played a pivotal role in strengthening pharmaceutical manufacturing, promoting innovation, and advancing the availability of quality medicines in Pakistan and international markets.
Dr. Waheed served as Central Chairman of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA), where he was instrumental in advocating industry reforms, pharmaceutical export development, and policies aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector. His leadership extended to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), where he chaired the Standing Committee on the Pharmaceutical Industry. He was also actively involved in organising major national industry forums, including the Pakistan Pharma Summit.
A committed advocate of environmental sustainability and social responsibility, Dr. Waheed served as Chairman of the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH), promoting corporate social responsibility, environmental protection, and public health initiatives.
His contributions extended beyond the pharmaceutical industry into healthcare education and research. Through his association with the Dow Life Sciences Foundation, he supported initiatives aimed at strengthening the Dow Bioequivalence Laboratory and revitalising the Dow Institute of Life Sciences, including efforts to advance indigenous anti-rabies vaccine production. He was also associated with Salim Habib University in an advisory capacity, encouraging collaboration between academia and industry.
An alumnus of the University of Karachi, Dr. Waheed remained a respected voice on pharmaceutical policy, healthcare accessibility, industrial development, and Pakistan’s economic challenges. His commitment to strengthening domestic pharmaceutical capabilities and expanding export opportunities reflected his vision for a more self-reliant and internationally competitive healthcare industry.
His passing marks the loss of a respected leader whose contributions to pharmaceutical development, healthcare advancement, and industry advocacy will remain an important part of his legacy. He will be remembered for his leadership, professional dedication, and enduring commitment to the progress of Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector.
May Allah Almighty grant him the highest place in Jannah and give strength and patience to his family, colleagues, and loved ones. A'ameen!
