PIC warns of suspending Sehat Card treatment from October 1

PIC may halt Sehat Card treatment over Rs 1.5 billion unpaid dues

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC) has warned that it may suspend treatment under the Sehat Card programme starting October 1 if its pending payments are not cleared.

In an official letter addressed to State Life Insurance, PIC stated that State Life owes the hospital Rs 1.5 billion. The prolonged non-payment has caused disruptions in the procurement of medicines and essential medical equipment, putting patient care at risk.

The hospital administration said that it would be unable to continue offering services under the Sehat Card scheme if the dues remain unpaid. The new contract proposed by State Life is currently under review, but PIC stressed that immediate clearance of pending bills is necessary to sustain healthcare operations.

Meanwhile, health department officials confirmed that the provincial government has yet to release Rs 12 billion in outstanding payments to State Life Insurance. They acknowledged that the province is facing financial constraints but assured that efforts are underway to resolve the funding issue and prevent service disruptions.
