Punjab using strategies to improve mother and child health

LAHORE: Dr Yasmin Rashid, Health Minister of Punjab, met the World Bank delegation in her office to discuss a way forward for family planning and mother and child initiatives.

Dr Yasmin Rashid and the World Bank delegation discussed progress on family planning initiatives in Punjab. She highlighted steps taken by the Health Department for family planning. The World Bank delegation appreciated the efforts of the Health Department.

Dr Yasmin Rashid said, “The health department is taking critical steps for family planning in the province. All stakeholders must work in collaboration for family planning. We appreciate the support of the World Bank for Family Planning initiatives. Under the Human Capital Investment Project, the mother of every child born in public sector hospitals in 11 districts shall get Rs.1000 per visit for the next two years. The development of a country depends on its population. Counselling of every mother reaching govt facilities for deliveries is crucial. Birth spacing is important for the health of mother and child. We incentivise doctors to counsel every mother who comes for delivery in government hospitals. Lady Health Workers play a pivotal role in counselling women in family planning. In Punjab, ten state-of-the-art mother and child hospitals are being set up to improve maternally and child health indicators. According to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, we are working to provide better healthcare facilities. Revision of our priorities is crucial for successful family planning. Digital Health Authority will be set up in Punjab soon. Naya Pakistan Qaumi Sehat Card has ensured free treatment for mothers and children.”
