Fire erupts at JPMC ward 12, no casualties reported

KARACHI: A fire broke out in front of Ward 12 at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Karachi, originating from an old storage room filled with years of accumulated waste. Officials said the blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit.

The thick smoke caused panic among patients and attendants, prompting an immediate evacuation of Ward 12 and nearby areas as a precaution. The hospital administration acted swiftly, breaking the lock of the storage area and deploying security, workshop, and electrician teams to contain the fire. A fire brigade vehicle arrived promptly to assist.

Dr. Adeel Samoo confirmed that there were no casualties, injuries, or financial losses. He reassured the public that all patients and staff are safe and that the situation was quickly brought under control. While the smoke caused temporary alarm, no one faced any danger.

The incident highlights the importance of regular safety audits, proper waste management, and quick emergency response protocols in hospitals to protect patients, staff, and infrastructure.
