Depression is becoming dangerous disease at global level, Dr Karim Khuwaja

KARACHI: Depression is becoming a dangerous disease at the global level, and if timely measures are not taken to deal with it, soon this disease will emerge as the most extensive disease in the world, and the new generation will suffer a lot. 


Depression creates different psychological problems that can lead to various dangerous situations,  Dr Karim Khuwaja, the Chairman Sindh Mental Health Authority, observed while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the counselling clinic and digital library at the department of psychology of the University of Karachi. 

He mentioned that access to authentic and reliable information is vital for quality research. Without it, the dream of good research cannot be fulfilled, which is why establishing a digital library has become inevitable in every corner of the world. He said that in this era of modern technology, the whole world is moving towards digitization, and we should also utilize it to enhance our work output. 
 
Dr Karim Khuwaja further said that it is necessary to be in tune with modern requirements to join the ranks of developed nations. He congratulated the department for establishing the counselling clinic and the digital library for MPhil and PhD scholars and students. 
 
Earlier, Professor Dr Qudsia Tariq, the Chairperson, Department of Psychology, University of Karachi, said that the purpose of establishing a counselling clinic in the department is to provide professional counselling to students, teachers, employees, and private clients, intending to promote awareness of mental health among the masses. She added that the department tries to provide better opportunities to its students and researchers, and this digital library has been established to facilitate scholars and students.
