Deserving Patients being denied medicine and treatment at CHK

Deserving people visiting out-patients department or admitted in different departments of Civil Hospital Karachi are not being provided with free medicine and treatment facilities, since the month of February, owing to delay in  release of ‘Zakat Fund’ from provincial authorities concerned.

Sources at Civil Hospital Karachi, wishing not be named, informed that; Deserving patients in OPD and hospital-admitted persons have been facing great hardship  and much difficulties to get treatment since the month of February, due to the end of quota of ‘Zakat  Fund’ released earlier. They said provincial authorities could not release funds on account of Zakat, to the hospital so far, to facilitate poor and destitute patients.  

He said delay in release of ‘Zakat Fund’ suspended the treatment, diagnostic and medicines supply to poor patients who generally come from different parts Sindh and Balochistan province in the hospital for better treatment facilities.   He said poor patients have been facing great hardship owing shortage of funds.

He said provincial authorities released 10 million rupees annually to the hospital and funds were being given to this institution in two installments, after every six month, which were utilized on poor and deserving people.  He said earlier authorities concerned released Rs 5 million ‘Zakat Fund’ for the hospital, late in the month of October and all funds had been utilized.

Additional Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr Ashfaq Memon, when contacted, confirmed that pervious Zakat Fund had been utilized and they have not received the next installment so far. He hoped that the fund would be released within a few days.

He said all efforts are underway to provide medicines and other facilities to poor patients from the hospital.
