IRD role lauded in advancing immunization efforts

KARACHI: The role of the Interactive Research and Development (IRD) – a global health delivery and research organization – was appreciated in enhancing vaccination cover in Pakistan, at a dissemination ceremony held recently at a local hotel.

The event was attended by Dr. Muhammad Naeem Rajput, Project Director of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Sindh, as the chief guest, besides Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH) Sindh Project Director Dr. Farhana Memon, and Director Health Services Dr. Saqib Sheikh. Representatives from partner organizations, district health officers, and frontline health workers, including lady health workers and vaccinators, were also present.

On the occasion, Maternal and Child Health Deputy Director Maryam Mahmood praised IRD's research-based initiatives, highlighting the leadership of its Global Director Dr. Subhash Chandra.

She emphasized IRD's commitment to inclusive vaccination efforts, ensuring no child is left behind, and reiterated its goal of cost-effective interventions utilizing modern technology.

Dr. Muhammad Naeem, as a special guest, commended IRD's collaboration and emphasized the importance of robust measures for frontline health worker training. In recognition of International Women's Day, he called for empowering lady health workers through autonomy and training to enhance their effectiveness.

Senior Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Akram Sultan, thanked all partners and stressed the integration of new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, into the health sector.

He highlighted the Gamified Application developed for frontline health staff training as a significant advancement, appreciating the role of frontline health workers for their dedicated services.
