JPMC symposium to spotlight global health challenges, national solutions

KARACHI: The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) will host its 55th Annual Medical Symposium from January 31 to February 3, 2026, under the theme “Global Health Challenges, National Solutions.” The landmark academic event will bring together leading healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and policymakers from across Pakistan to promote collaboration, innovation, and excellence in medical education and healthcare delivery.

The symposium aims to foster a strong culture of research, lifelong learning, and continued medical education while empowering postgraduate trainees to become future translational investigators. Organizers said the event will also strengthen the bridge between scientific discovery and improved health outcomes at the national level.

Comprehensive academic program

The four-day symposium will feature 45 pre-symposium workshops, plenary and scientific sessions covering multiple medical specialties, and extensive poster and free-paper presentations. Dedicated sessions for nursing and allied health professionals will also be held, alongside annual departmental reports highlighting institutional achievements.

A large-scale medical and pharmaceutical exhibition will run in parallel, showcasing innovations in diagnostics, therapeutics, and healthcare delivery.

Focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

A special Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Panel Discussion titled “Sustainable Development Goals: How Can Public Healthcare and Education Contribute” will bring together leading experts, including Professor Khalid Sher, Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, Dr. Sarosh H. Lodhi, Dr. Zafar Fatmi, Mr. Mushtaq Chappara, Professor Shehla M. Baqai, and Ms. Salma Alam. The panel will explore how healthcare systems and medical education institutions can contribute meaningfully to national and global development targets.

Keynote lecture, community outreach

Professor Saeed Akhter will deliver the keynote lecture on the symposium theme during the Plenary Session. Community-focused activities includes a blood donation drive titled “Vein-to-Vein Hemovigilance” held on January 27, and a Health Awareness Walk named “Walk for Health, Care for Life” on January 28.

High-profile inaugural ceremony

The inaugural ceremony will be held on January 31, with Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah as the chief guest and Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho as guest of honor. Senior government officials and healthcare leaders expected to attend include Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Muhammad Ismail Rahoo, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah Rizvi, Sharjeel Memon, Saeed Ghani, Professor Tahir Saghir, Professor Nasir Saleem Saddal, Professor Syed Jamal Raza, and Professor Tariq Mehmood.

Gala dinner, awards

A gala dinner will take place on February 2 at Mövenpick, where shields of appreciation will be presented to organizers and Heads of Departments who contributed to the success of the symposium.

Organizers said the 55th Annual Medical Symposium will serve as a vital national platform for advancing medical knowledge, strengthening professional networks, and shaping healthcare solutions aligned with Pakistan’s evolving needs.
