JSMU completes HEC-mandated RIPE-based performance review

JSMU conducts RIPE-based institutional performance review in line with HEC standards

KARACHI: The Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has successfully conducted a rigorous Institutional Performance Review (IPR) based on the Review of Institutional Performance Effectiveness and Enhancement (RIPE) guidelines prescribed by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).

The two-day review was held under the coordination of Dr. Abdul Wahid Usmani, Director of JSMU’s Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC).

Purpose of the review

The primary goal of this evaluation was to assess the university’s performance across 16 core standards outlined in the RIPE framework, which focuses on improving the quality of education, institutional governance, and service delivery.

The Institutional Performance Review Committee, comprising experienced external reviewers from other leading academic institutions, evaluated JSMU's academic and administrative functions in accordance with national higher education benchmarks.

The external committee included:

• Mr. Israr Ahmed Khan, Registrar, Baqai University
• Mr. Syed Waqar ul Hassan, Director QEC, Saleem Habib University
• Dr. Saeeda Junaid, Director QEC, Baqai Medical University
• Ms. Ambreen Asif Qureshi, Consultant, IntelAct

The review process was carried out through multiple levels, including:

• Document reviews
• One-on-one meetings with custodians and administrative heads
• Interaction with deans, faculty members, students, and institutional heads
• Site visits to various departments and institutes across the university

The evaluators examined operational effectiveness, academic planning, governance, research output, and student services in depth.

During the exit meeting, the review committee shared its preliminary observations with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon, highlighting both achievements and areas that require further development.

The team emphasized that such reviews aim not only to point out weaknesses but also to support universities in achieving continuous quality improvement aligned with international best practices.

Prof. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon expressed gratitude to the review team for their feedback and reaffirmed JSMU’s commitment to academic excellence, institutional transparency, and evidence-based improvement.

He also appreciated the efforts of the QEC team and the IPR committee for their diligent and professional execution of the review process.
