Chemotherapy started at Dow University Hospital

KARACHI: With the starting of the chemotherapy facility at Dow University Hospital (Ojha Campus), the treatment facilities for cancer patients have been completed. 

Dr Zahid Azam, Medical Superintendent, Dow University Hospital, also a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, said that OPD, IPD and Day Care facilities were already available to cancer patients in the hospital. He said that the supervision of medical oncology services had been entrusted to a specialist certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. 
 
He said that gastrointestinal and other types of cancer need chemotherapy, while breast cancer and abdominal cancer in women are treated with chemotherapy.

Regarding World Hepatitis Day on July 28, Dr Zahid Azam said that one million people die annually due to hepatitis B and its complications, while 350 million people worldwide have hepatitis.

Hepatitis is a silent killer that silently damages the liver inside the body. Therefore, spreading awareness about this disease is necessary so that people get their tests done regularly. He said that the slogan of World Hepatitis Day is "Hepatitis can't wait".
