LAHORE: Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, told journalists during a visit to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) that 14 of the hospital's 20 units were non-operational.

Last month, only 17% of patients received free care at the hospital, despite the fact that it was intended to serve the medical needs of the underprivileged from all over Pakistan.

To help the country's poorest citizens, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the hospital's management to fully operationalise the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) and provide free treatment to marginalised people.

In 2015, he pledged free treatment for all citizens throughout the construction of the hospital's first phase, but treatment was only provided until 2018, after which the institution was shuttered for another two years.

However, the National Accountability Bureau condemned him to prison twice for this effort, despite the fact that he could not show even twenty rupees of corruption. He said that an attempt had been made to demolish the project of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
