KARACHI: A portion of ceiling plaster in Ward 7 of Jinnah Hospital Karachi fell after recent heavy rains, injuring Head Nurse Farzana Naheed on her shoulder and foot. The incident has renewed concerns about the hospital’s deteriorating infrastructure and the risks posed to staff and patients.

The falling plaster caused panic among nurses present in the ward, many of whom fled in fear of further collapse. Farzana was immediately treated by hospital doctors and is reported to be recovering.

Hospital officials clarified that only a chunk of plaster had fallen, not the entire ceiling, but acknowledged that the incident highlights the fragility of the hospital’s aging building. Jinnah Hospital spokesperson Jahangir Darani confirmed the incident and emphasized the urgent need for repairs across several dilapidated wards.

Healthcare staff have urged authorities to take swift action, warning that without timely renovation, such accidents could escalate and threaten lives in one of Karachi’s busiest public hospitals.
