JSMU rejects PMC instructions

KARACHI: Prof Shahid Rasul, Acting Vice-Chancellor, JSMU, stated that applications from candidates that would be scoring 50 per cent and above marks in the MDCAT could apply in MBBS and BDS programmes.

Nonetheless, previously, Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) had warned Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) not to interfere in private institutions' admission process and maintain the criteria of 65 per cent score for candidates in MDCAT to get admission in MBBS and BDS programmes. 

Jinnah Sindh Medical University(JSMU) had received a total of 11,000 applications for admission in private institutions.

Candidates applied for MBBS and BDS programmes in all private medical and dental colleges and universities of Sindh at the close of the admissions portal on January 20. 

According to Dr Fatima Abid, Director Admissions, JSMU, the university received about 11,000 applications against a total of 1940 seats in MBBS and BDS programmes in private medical colleges and universities across Sindh. 

As per her, the scrutiny of applications was underway. A list of eligible students for admission will be released on January 25, 2022, after which a preliminary merit list will be released soon. Candidates are advised to check the JSMU website for the list and announcements. 

Prof Shahid Rasul, Acting Vice-Chancellor, JSMU, stressed that JSMU would uphold its traditions of transparency and merit in the admission process. According to the instructions by the Government of Sindh, priority would be given to the candidates of Sindh. Further, the Government of Sindh had instructed JSMU to invite applications from candidates scoring 50 per cent and above marks in the MDCAT. 

It is pertinent to mention here that the last date for submitting applications was January 20, 2022, after which the process of receiving applications on the portal was closed. Students who have submitted their applications and want to make corrections in their records or documents can do so on the portal within two days.
