Karachi hospital faces serious allegations of withholding newborn twin after delivery

KARACHI: A deeply disturbing incident has surfaced involving a private hospital in Korangi, where the parents of newborn twin girls claim the facility withheld one of their babies during discharge and failed to provide any explanation. The missing infant was allegedly recovered four days later from the National Institute of Child Health (NICH), raising serious concerns over medical ethics, patient rights, and hospital accountability.

According to Ismatullah, the father of the twins, his wife delivered two daughters on July 12, 2025 at the unnamed private hospital. Shockingly, just two hours after the delivery, his wife and one newborn were discharged.

“When I asked the staff about the second child, they laughed and refused to answer,” Ismatullah said, recounting the trauma.

He added that a female staff member secretly disclosed that the second child had been shifted to NICH without the family’s consent or proper medical documentation.

“We were shocked and terrified. After searching frantically, we finally found our baby girl at NICH,” he revealed.

The family has since lodged an FIR against the hospital, alleging suspected abduction and criminal negligence. However, no legal action has been taken so far by law enforcement authorities, according to the distressed father.

Ismatullah, a daily wage laborer, made an emotional appeal to the Sindh Health Minister and Chief Minister to investigate the matter and take strict action against the hospital.

“I already have four children. These twin daughters made us six. I’m poor, but I deserve justice for my family,” he pleaded.

The incident has sparked public outrage and renewed demands for better regulation, monitoring, and ethical enforcement in private healthcare facilities across Pakistan.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement. Meanwhile, human rights and child protection advocates are urging the provincial health department to ensure patient rights and hospital accountability, especially in maternal and neonatal care.
