Punjab opens Pakistan’s first advanced cancer treatment center at Mayo Hospital

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially opened Pakistan’s first advanced cancer treatment center at Mayo Hospital, Lahore, introducing state-of-the-art cancer ablation technology for the first time in the country.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Maryam Nawaz said that this breakthrough marks a new era for cancer care in Pakistan and highlighted that this advanced ablation technology is not even available in India yet. She revealed that two successful surgeries have already been performed using the new technology, offering renewed hope to cancer patients seeking safer and minimally invasive treatment options.

Maryam Nawaz shared that she personally inspected the technology during her visit to China and directed that the machinery be imported to Pakistan. She announced that more modern equipment for treating different types of cancer will soon be introduced across public hospitals in Punjab.

The Chief Minister emphasized that ensuring access to world-class healthcare facilities is her government’s top priority. To deliver high-quality care, Pakistani doctors have been sent to China for hands-on training on using the new cancer ablation equipment and procedures.

In a major relief for cancer patients, Maryam Nawaz announced that all treatment for underprivileged patients at the center will be completely free of cost, with expenses fully covered by the Punjab government.

This initiative is expected to significantly improve access to life-saving cancer treatment, reduce the financial burden on thousands of families, and set new benchmarks for public healthcare services in Pakistan.
