ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Health has officially confirmed the presence of the poliovirus in environmental samples obtained from nine districts across Pakistan.

According to the spokesperson of the ministry, the virus was identified in single samples from Quetta, Mastung, Multan, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Hab.

Poliovirus was also detected in samples collected from Karachi Malir, Karachi South, and DI Khan.

The spokesperson said the origin of the virus in all samples is believed to be from across the border.

Highlighting the importance of vaccination in preventing the virus transmission, the spokesperson said the most effective measure is the administration of the polio vaccine.

Stressing the need to protect children under the age of five from potential disability, he urged parents to ensure their children receive the polio vaccine promptly.
