IHC orders to investigate torture of Mohsin Baig in police custody

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) instructed the capital's inspector general of police (IGP) to review accusations that Mr. Mohsin Jamil Baig had been subjected to torture while in police custody and submit a statement on the subject.

The IHC announced the order on a petition filed yesterday by Shehla Mustafa, wife of Mr. Mohsin Baig, urging the court to invalidate cases made against Mr. Baig.

Mr. Mohsin Baig had been named in two cases — one registered with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the other with Margalla police.

The first case was registered at the FIA's cybercrime reporting station in Lahore on a complaint of Murad Saeed, a member of Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), about his "character assassination" during a television show.

As per the sources, officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) were trying to get into the house of Mr. Mohsin Baig without a warrant and were not wearing their official uniforms.
