MDCAT 2025 registrations hit 140,071 candidates, new date set for October 26

ISLAMABAD: A total of 140,071 candidates have registered for the Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2025, according to the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC). The nationwide examination, which is the mandatory gateway for entry into medical and dental colleges, has been rescheduled to October 26, 2025 to accommodate students affected by floods.

The MDCAT will be held simultaneously across Pakistan and at one international center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to facilitate overseas candidates.

Provincial breakdown of registrations

• Punjab: 50,443 candidates (University of Health Sciences, Lahore)
• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 39,964 candidates (Khyber Medical University, Peshawar)
• Sindh: 33,160 candidates (Sukkur IBA Testing Service)
• Balochistan: 10,278 candidates (Bolan University of Medical & Health Sciences, Quetta)
• ICT, AJK, GB: 6,032 candidates combined (Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, Islamabad)
• International venues: 194 candidates
• Punjab leads in the number of applicants, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

PMDC’s role and assurance of fairness

While PMDC does not directly conduct the exam, it has prepared a uniform syllabus and question bank in collaboration with federal and provincial stakeholders. Universities have been tasked with paper setting, exam administration, and results announcement under strict PMDC standards.

To ensure transparency, PMDC has directed all admitting universities to coordinate with FIA, IB, and local police to prevent paper leaks or cheating. The council has stated that any misconduct will be dealt with firmly under the law.

Message to students

PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj has called on universities to provide maximum facilitation to candidates and has encouraged students to focus on merit-based preparation. “Hard work, honesty, and dedication are the only path to success. Avoid shortcuts or unfair means,” he emphasized.

This year’s MDCAT is expected to be one of the largest in recent history, underscoring the growing interest in medical and dental education across Pakistan.
