KARACHI: The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases' (NICVD) management has transformed the attendants’ waiting area into a car stand for its VVIP visitors, causing grave inconvenience to the patients’ attendants.

The security officials at the NICVD have introduced valet parking for VVIPs and turned the waiting area into a car stand, which is a great injustice to the visiting attendants. The security officials are charging Rs50 to Rs100 per vehicle. The valet parking service currently accommodates approximately 70 to 100 cars daily.

However, patients and their attendants are facing grave hardships due to the unavailability of the waiting area in Sindh's largest cardiac care hospital.  An estimated 5000 to 7000 patients with cardiac aliments visit the NICVD’s OPDs and emergency department every day for treatment, but no space is available for patients and their attendants to sit.

Chief Operating Officer, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Azra Maqsood, said that the valet parking service was introduced to accommodate the vehicles of patients visiting the hospital’s executive clinics.

She admitted that the hospital lacks the space to create a waiting area for the patients and their attendants.
