AKUH organizes public diabetes awareness session on World Diabetes Day 2025

KARACHI: The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) successfully organized a public awareness session titled ‘Live Well With Diabetes – Track. Treat. Thrive.’ to mark World Diabetes Day, highlighting that more than one in four adults in Pakistan is living with diabetes.

The initiative aimed to educate, screen, and empower the public on managing and preventing diabetes and its complications. Attendees included healthcare professionals, students, and members of the public seeking practical guidance and free health assessments.

Expert guidance and interactive learning

The session emphasized early detection and adherence to proper diabetes management plans. Dr. Qamar Masood, Consultant and Section Head of Endocrinology at AKUH, stated, “Diabetes remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in Pakistan. By creating awareness and encouraging screening, we can empower people to take charge of their health and prevent complications before they occur.”

The program included specialist talks, a Q&A session, live exercise demonstrations, and dietary guidance tailored to the Pakistani palate to help regulate blood sugar levels effectively. Discussions also underscored how timely diagnosis, lifestyle adjustments, and consistent treatment adherence can prevent serious diabetes complications.

Free health assessments for immediate impact

AKUH provided complimentary on-site screenings to facilitate immediate awareness and detection, including:

  1. Blood Glucose and HbA1c tests
  2. Cholesterol and Blood Pressure checks
  3. Measurements for BMI, waist circumference, and body fat composition

This initiative demonstrates AKUH’s commitment to community health, combining expert knowledge, preventive care, and public engagement to support individuals living with diabetes and related health issues.

Conclusion

Through such awareness campaigns, AKUH continues to empower communities, promote early detection, and improve overall health outcomes in Pakistan.
