ISLAMABAD: Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Awan, Director of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), has underscored the importance of timely vaccination against pneumonia for children under the age of two in order to safeguard them from this life-threatening ailment.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Awan urged parents not to postpone their children's vaccinations, emphasizing that doing so is paramount for their well-being and overall health.

He also highlighted that free pneumonia vaccines are readily available at all healthcare facilities under the EPI, with recommended doses administered at six, ten, and fourteen weeks of age.

To ensure their children receive these vital vaccinations, parents are encouraged to visit major hospitals, Tehsil and District Headquarter Hospitals, as well as centers participating in the immunization extension program, primary health centers, and rural health centers.

Dr. Mukhtar emphasized the gravity of pneumonia, particularly in young children, and stressed the need for immediate medical attention if symptoms such as cough, fever, or difficulty breathing manifest.

Furthermore, he provided advice for parents to dress their young children in layers during the winter season and shield them from exposure to cold weather, adding an extra layer of protection to their health and well-being.
