Pneumonia outbreak claims lives of 50 children in Punjab

LAHORE: The Caretaker Health Minister of Punjab, Dr. Javed Akram, has reported a rising Pneumonia cases situation as 50 children have lost their lives in the province. Dr. Akram expressed his concern, stating that the number of pneumonia-related fatalities this year has been notably high.

Prof. Javed Akram further elaborated that there has been a concerning spike in pneumonia cases, particularly in January, leading to the unfortunate demise of 50 children in Punjab. Shockingly, this grim figure aligns with the annual average of pneumonia-related deaths in the region.

Amidst this health crisis, Punjab is also gearing up to administer 50,000 booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. These booster shots are expected to provide enhanced protection against the new variants of the virus.

On a slightly more positive note, Dr. Akram reassured the public that the new JN1 variant of COVID-19 is not as severe, with less impact on the lungs. In another significant development, efforts are underway to streamline healthcare costs, as the government was reportedly spending a staggering 1.5 crore rupees per hour on the health card system. To alleviate this burden, a fifty percent discount has been introduced, aimed at improving the healthcare system for the benefit of all.
