Federal cabinet okays price cut for ICU medications  

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved a substantial reduction of 55 to 65 percent in the prices of the medicines essential for patients admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICUs).

As per health ministry spokesperson, the decision to reduce the prices of four key medicines was made following directives from the caretaker minister of health, reflecting a commitment to address the healthcare needs of patients in critical condition.

Quoting Health Minister Nadeem Jan, he said the cost of cholestemetith sodium has been lowered by 55 to 65 percent. Moreover, the price of 1 million units of injection has been reduced from Rs2,987 to Rs1,036, of 2 million units of injection from Rs4,564 to Rs1,737, and the price of 3 million units of the injection has seen a reduction from Rs5,855 to Rs2,591.

These medications play a crucial role in the treatment of patients in the ICU.

Despite the prevailing difficult conditions, the minister said the government was determined to provide relief to the people.

He assured that the crackdown on counterfeit and unregistered drugs will persist as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
