KARACHI: The staff of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Ojha Campus, under the banner of the Joint Action Committee, staged a protest demonstration against force transfers of employees and non-provision of allowances.

The protesters carried placards and banners inscribed with different slogans, including stop force transfers and posting employees, pay allowances, promoting staff into subsequent grades and others. Many nurses, paramedics and support staff have participated in the protest on the terse notice of the Joint Action Committee.

The protesters said DUHS management has to deprive employees of basic allowances and benefits. The staff has also been deprived of promotions and not regularly on these posts for several years—the alleged that DUHS management has been hiring retired and new employees on a contract basis on handsome salaries.

The nurses and paramedics who served day and night during the peak of Coronavirus have been not provided risk allowance and special allowance. The harassment of nurses and paramedical staff have continued by the administrative officers. The protesters said five employees had been transferred from their posts.

The Joint Action Committee has given the Dow University administration a two-day ultimatum to accept their genuine demands; otherwise, they will enlarge the circle of protest
