JSMU and DUHS observe 'Youm-e-Tashakur' with patriotic zeal to honor Pakistan Armed Forces

KARACHI: In a powerful display of unity and national spirit, two of Pakistan’s leading medical institutions—Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) and Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS)—commemorated 'Youm-e-Tashakur' (Day of Gratitude) to express unwavering support and heartfelt appreciation for the Armed Forces of Pakistan amid recent tensions with neighboring India.

Held at their respective campuses, these events aimed to celebrate the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of the Pakistan Army, while instilling a sense of patriotism among students, faculty, and administrative leadership.

JSMU: A day of unity and gratitude

At JSMU’s main campus, the ceremony began with the National Anthem and a solemn flag-hoisting event led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Amjad Siraj Memon. In his address, he highlighted the essence of patriotism, stating:

“Gratitude towards our homeland and the defenders of our nation is the foundation of true patriotism.”

The university’s leadership—including Registrar Dr. Azam Khan, Principal SMC Prof. Dr. Ambreen Usmani, Principal SIOHS Dr. Sajid Hanif, and Director HR Dr. Rahat Naz—joined students who waved national flags and held placards praising the military’s historic role in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Special prayers were offered for peace, unity, and national prosperity, with recognition of the tireless efforts of the armed forces and the government. The event was organized by Director Administration Mr. Sohrab Zaman and coordinated by Additional Director of Communications Ms. Asfiya Aziz.

DUHS: A rally of pride and preparedness

Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) mirrored the patriotic fervor at both Ojha and Dow Medical College campuses. Led by Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Jahan Ara Hasan, DUHS held a symbolic rally and commemorative ceremony that featured strong expressions of solidarity with Pakistan’s military.

Prof. Jahan Ara Hasan saluted the resilience of the armed forces, saying:

“Our valiant forces have uplifted the nation’s spirit with their courage and sacrifice.”

Registrar Dr. Ashar Afaq and Principal Prof. Saba Sohail emphasized the medical community’s readiness during national emergencies, highlighting the strong synergy between healthcare professionals and military responders.

DUHS students also initiated a blood donation campaign and supported emergency preparedness initiatives. Hospitals affiliated with the university had implemented full emergency response plans to deal with potential wartime scenarios, demonstrating proactive civic responsibility.

The event ended with emotionally charged chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pak Fauj Paindabad,” followed by Quranic recitations at university mosques in honor of fallen martyrs.
