KMC to train citizens for emergency aid 

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced a strategic collaboration between the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Pakistan Life Savers Programme to provide training to citizens in the provision of immediate help during emergencies.

The programme aims to empower the residents of Karachi to offer prompt assistance in cases of heart attacks and injuries, ultimately saving precious lives.

Initiated under the City Warden department, the training initiative intends to educate thousands of citizens, particularly the youth, transforming Karachi into a city of life savers.

The mayor mentioned the loss of lives in Karachi each year due to heart attacks and serious injuries. In response to this critical issue, KMC is committed to raising awareness and enabling citizens to provide immediate medical aid during crucial moments, he added.

Acknowledging the commendable efforts of the Pakistan Life Saver Program in this field, Mr Wahab highlighted the preliminary agreements made to facilitate this collaboration. The program's scope is set to expand gradually, covering the entire city and ensuring citizens can offer immediate medical assistance following fatal accidents and heart attacks, he said.

The mayor said that being one of the world's seven largest cities, it is essential for Karachi residents to receive training as per international standards. Such training equips individuals to respond effectively to emergencies like fires, accidents, heart attacks, strokes, and serious injuries.

He said the training initiative aligns with the broader goal of creating a safer and more resilient city, not only through improved healthcare infrastructure but also by empowering citizens to play an active role in emergency response and medical assistance.

Immediate assistance from trained individuals can significantly improve patient outcomes before reaching a hospital, ultimately saving lives, he added.

The mayor also mentioned the ongoing improvements in KMC hospitals to accommodate a growing number of patients.
