In a landmark move that redefines how citizens participate in saving lives, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has launched Karachi’s first donation drive-thru facility at SIUT Trust Hospital on Shahrah-e-Faisal, offering a fast, organized, and dignified way for the public to support free patient care.

At a time when rising medical costs place unbearable pressure on families, SIUT’s drive-thru model offers a powerful solution to a national problem: how to make healthcare support easier for ordinary citizens. With a simple stop from a car window, donors can now directly contribute to treatment for patients who otherwise could not afford care. This innovation places Karachi among global cities adopting smart, citizen-friendly philanthropy models.

For more than 50 years, SIUT has provided completely free, high-quality medical care to over 35 million patients. Its model of healthcare without discrimination has survived and expanded solely through public trust and community donations. The launch of the donation drive-thru reflects the institution’s next step in strengthening that public partnership.

The inauguration carried symbolic significance. Members of the Vintage and Classic Rally Drivers Association of Pakistan participated in the ceremonial opening with a symbolic drive-thru donation, followed by a briefing and hospital tour. The moment blended civic spirit with modern healthcare innovation, underlining how community engagement fuels institutional progress.

“This milestone has been made possible through the trust and continued support of the public. The donation drive-thru facility provides a convenient and organized way for citizens to contribute towards the treatment of patients in need,” said Dr. Rehan Mohsin, highlighting the people-driven nature of SIUT’s healthcare model.

SIUT Trust Hospital, located in the former Regent Plaza building on Shahrah-e-Faisal, is being developed as a future-ready healthcare campus. The facility is designed to integrate clinical services with academic training and research activity, while gradually incorporating advanced digital technologies to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

At present, the hospital provides essential services including dialysis, lithotripsy, and physiotherapy. The dialysis unit operates multiple beds daily under experienced nephrologists and trained nursing staff using modern equipment that meets international standards. Advanced lithotripsy services and comprehensive physiotherapy programs further expand access to critical care for urban patients.

Beyond convenience, the donation drive-thru signals a cultural shift in how healthcare is supported in Pakistan. By removing barriers to giving, SIUT aims to increase donor participation and create a sustainable model for long-term service expansion. It turns everyday movement on one of Karachi’s busiest roads into an opportunity for social contribution.
