JSMU holds training workshop on fire safety, first aid

KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon stressed the need to equip non-teaching staff of the varsity with essential expertise in handling emergencies, citing that 70pc of mortalities are attributed to road accidents mainly because of lack of provision of immediate medical help.

His remarks came during a comprehensive training program titled "Basic Fire Safety and First Aid" held at the JSMU in collaboration with Dr. Essa Laboratory, Hygiene Factor Pakistan, Patient Protection Society NGO, and Sindh Emergency Rescue 1122, aimed to equip the participants with life-saving skills.

Dr Memon thanked Dr Rizwan Naseer of Rescue 1122 for his commendable efforts and expressed a desire to hold a major event at JSMU following this initiative.

Under the guidance of Registrar Dr. Azam Khan, JSMU organized the training program, focusing on equipping both teaching and non-teaching staff with the necessary skills to handle emergencies effectively on the university premises.

The program focused on fire safety protocols and basic medical assistance techniques, providing the participants with essential knowledge to save lives during emergencies.

The participants received training on the proper use of firefighting equipment and procedures for responding to medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, and injuries in adults, children, and infants. Additionally, CPR techniques were demonstrated and practiced to ensure preparedness for emergency response.

The training sessions, conducted under the supervision of rescue commander Ms Rehana Yasmeen, the Dr. Essa Laboratory team, and the Hygiene Factor, included practical exercises to simulate emergency scenarios, enabling participants to respond swiftly and effectively.

Assistant Registrar Dr. Kiran Qadeer, Principal SMC-JSMU Prof. Dr. Syed Masroor Ahmed, Principal IPS-JSMU Prof. Dr. Huma Ali, In-charge PDC-JSMU Dr. Amna Ansar, along with approximately 30 faculty members and staff of JSMU attended the event.

Mr. Asif Zahoor Warsi and Mr. Adil Sikandar were program coordinators, ensuring the successful completion of this training workshop.
