Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department takes strict action at DHQ Hospital Lakki Marwat

PESHAWAR: In a significant move to improve healthcare standards, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has suspended 61 employees from the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Lakki Marwat due to negligence and mismanagement. This decision follows a surprise inspection by Director General (DG) Health, which revealed several serious issues, including the non-provision of essential medicines and overall poor healthcare facilities.

Suspensions, administrative changes at DHQ Hospital

According to official notifications, the Medical Superintendent (MS), along with several doctors, has been removed from their positions. The suspended individuals include Dr. Akbar Zaman, Dr. Muhammad Ismail, and Dr. Waqas Ahmed, who have been directed to report to the DG Health Office for further action.

In response to these developments, Dr. Akhtar Zaman has been appointed as the new MS of DHQ Hospital, and Dr. Umar Hayat has taken over the position of Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS). Additionally, Dr. Jan Bahadar has been assigned the additional charge of DMS to oversee hospital operations and improve the management system.

Legal proceedings against absent employees

In addition to suspending the employees, the Health Department has initiated proceedings against them under the Efficiency and Discipline (E&D) Rules 2011. This highlights the department's commitment to enforcing accountability and addressing issues of negligence and poor performance in government hospitals.

During the inspection, expired medicines were discovered in the hospital’s store, which led to the issuance of show-cause notices to the responsible officials. This discovery points to the need for better inventory management and oversight in government-run healthcare facilities.
