Renowned Pakistani neurologist Dr Hasan Aziz passed away

KARACHI: Prof. Dr Hasan Aziz, the most senior backbone of the Pakistani neurologists, passed away on 14-08-2022. 

The funeral of Prof. Dr Hasan Aziz was offered on August 15th, 2022, at Jama e Masjid JPMC, Karachi. 

Prof. Dr Hasan Aziz is recognized for initiating general neurology in Pakistan about fifty years ago and conducting a 30-year campaign against epilepsy. He had instructed almost sixty neurologists.

In addition, he established the Neurology Research & Patients Welfare Fund. Extensive academic, research, advocacy, and welfare work; intense efforts to enhance public awareness, establish near-home care facilities, and provide Continued Medical Education for family physicians; and, most critically, a shift in the national attitude toward people with epilepsy.

Prof. Dr Hasan Aziz's aim of constructing The National Epilepsy Centre in Karachi for the comprehensive treatment of epilepsy in the poor and disadvantaged community was accomplished. It delivers diagnosis, tests, and antiepileptic medicines at 8% of the actual cost, all under one roof. Pro. Dr Hasan Aziz was a member of the Executive Committee and the immediate past president of the Pakistan Epilepsy Association. Served on many ILAE Commissions during the past quarter-century. In 2010, he was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Epilepsy Award by the Commission on Asian and Oceanian Affairs.
