Six more kids succumb to pneumonia in Punjab

ISLAMABAD: Six more children succumbed to pneumonia in Punjab within the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities from the infectious disease to 347 this year.

According to a private news channel, a total of 475 new cases of pneumonia were recorded in the last 24 hours, with 175 cases reported in Lahore alone.

Moreover, the overall count of pneumonia cases in Punjab has now surpassed 25,000, including 5,334 in Lahore.

Health authorities have confirmed that six children lost their lives in Punjab over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 347.

Experts in the health sector attribute the rapid increase in pneumonia cases and fatalities to environmental pollution exacerbated by winter smog. Pneumonia, primarily caused by viruses, often escalates following initial symptoms resembling a common cold or flu. This respiratory ailment, more prevalent in children aged five or younger, can manifest in varying degrees of severity.
