Childlife Foundation set up Telemedicine Satellite Centers in Balochistan

QUETTA: ChildLife Foundation's Emergency Room and Telemedicine Satellite Centers, set up in collaboration with the provincial government, currently covering the whole province of Balochistan.

According to a statement from the foundation, more than 67,000 children had been treated in ChildLife Foundation's paediatric emergency room at Balochistan's primary teaching hospital in Quetta.

Every day, children's lives are saved because of the ER's newest life-saving equipment, qualified staff that is accessible around the clock, and constant assistance from Karachi's Telemedicine Control Room.

As a result, 18,000 patients in remote areas of the province received telemedicine consultations from 32 Telemedicine Satellite Centers located in Pishin, Hub, Khuzdar and Naseerabad, and Panjgur as well as Zhob and Loralalai in conjunction with Mastung.

Dr Ahson Rabbani, CEO, ChildLife Foundation, states, "We are grateful to the government of Balochistan for supporting our efforts to enhance healthcare for children in the region".

He added, "Quetta's Sandeman Provincial Hospital contains a 50-bed children's ER, which ChildLife rebuilt in 2020.

Finally, we collaborated with local hospitals to bring excellent emergency treatment into people's neighbourhoods. We now have a telemedicine network that reaches every area in the province."

Syed Asad Agha, Director Operations at ChildLife Foundation, explains, "We implemented our revolutionary telemedicine hub-and-spoke technology in Balochistan's DHQs. This entangled the installation of IP phones and HD cameras in every DHQ, converting it into a Telemedicine Satellite Center (TSC) with 24/7 consultation obtainable from the Telemedicine Control Room in Karachi's Civil Hospital."

It is possible for Karachi-based experts to consult with children in distant parts of Balochistan via telemedicine, thanks to ChildLife's innovative approach. Children who are seriously ill are referred to Quetta's ER by a Telemedicine doctor. Patients' arrival and medical history are communicated via HMIS before they arrive at the hospital, so the hospital staff is aware of the patient's condition. Using this method, you'll save a lot of time.

ChildLife has a total of 11 children's ERs around the country, which should be recognised. Nine are in Sindh, 1 in Balochistan, and 1 in Punjab. By providing free of charge emergency treatment since 2011, ChildLife Foundation has saved the lives of 4 million Pakistani children.
