Journalists escape injury after elevator accident at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital

KARACHI: A group of journalists narrowly avoided serious injury on Saturday when an elevator at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) malfunctioned and dropped from the third floor to the first floor before coming to a halt.

According to initial reports, the lift became stuck midway, preventing a complete free fall and averting what could have been a major accident. The journalists, who had been covering an event at the hospital, were reportedly shaken but remained unharmed.

Mayor had used same lift moments earlier

Hospital staff confirmed that Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab had used the same elevator just moments before the malfunction occurred. The incident has prompted calls for an urgent review of lift maintenance and safety protocols at one of the city’s busiest public hospitals.
