KARACHI: The Aga Khan University’s Center for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME) has officially been approved as an accredited examination site for the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Clinical Examination (PACES). This prestigious recognition by the Royal Colleges of Physicians (RCP), UK, positions AKU as a key player in medical education, offering Pakistani and regional candidates access to a globally recognized clinical skills assessment without the need for international travel.
The approval follows a rigorous four-day MRCP(UK) Pathfinder (mock) clinical examination held at AKU-CIME in Karachi. Spearheaded by Dr Muhammed Tariq, Professor and Vice Dean of AKU's Medical College, this exercise evaluated the university’s cutting-edge simulation facilities, examiner expertise, and operational efficiency. The mock exam replicated real PACES assessments, ensuring AKU met the stringent international standards required by the RCP, UK.
“Hosting this exam at CIME was an absolute honor,” said Dr Faisal Ismail, Regional Director, CIME Pakistan. “This achievement reinforces our commitment to top-tier medical education and enables us to contribute significantly to global clinical training.”
In addition to site accreditation, 14 faculty members from AKU Medical College, including Dr Muhammed Tariq and Dr Faisal Ismail, have been officially certified as MRCP(UK) PACES examiners. This further cements AKU’s standing as a premier institution for high-stakes clinical examinations and postgraduate medical training.
The first official MRCP(UK) PACES examination at AKU-CIME is set for August 2025, providing a cost-effective, accessible alternative for Pakistani and regional candidates seeking international medical qualifications.
“Becoming an accredited MRCP(UK) PACES exam site and having 14 faculty members certified as examiners is a proud moment for AKU,” said Dr Muhammed Tariq. “This milestone not only elevates Pakistan’s medical education landscape but also opens doors for future collaborations on a global scale.”
This approval solidifies CIME’s role as a regional leader in clinical education and medical assessments, aligning with its mission to provide world-class training for healthcare professionals in Pakistan and East Africa.
By eliminating the need for overseas travel, AKU-CIME is making international medical certification more accessible and affordable, ensuring that Pakistan’s healthcare professionals are equipped with globally recognized credentials.
As AKU continues to expand its examination venues and academic collaborations, this achievement is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s medical workforce and enhance its contribution to global healthcare standards.
