Sindh health department issues strict orders against unauthorized clinics

KARACHI: The Sindh health department has launched a province-wide crackdown on unauthorized clinics reportedly being operated by nurses, paramedical personnel, and supporting staff in urban slums and rural areas. The action follows serious concerns expressed by Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho during a meeting held on 3 December 2025.

According to an official notification issued by the Directorate General Health Services Sindh (DGHS), Director General Dr. Waqar Memon has directed all District Health Officers (DHOs) and medical superintendents to ensure that no employee under their administrative control is involved in illegal private practice or running unregistered clinics.

Directive issued to DHOs and hospital heads

The notification, titled Certificate For Non-Involvement In Mal-Practice, instructs all relevant officers to submit written certificates within 15 days affirming that staff working under them are not engaged in any such activities.

The DGHS emphasized that involvement in unauthorized clinical practice is “highly objectionable and liable to be punished.” The letter highlights that certain nursing, paramedical and support staff have been found conducting illegal medical activities in violation of government regulations.

Government aims to ensure legal and ethical practices

The move is part of the Sindh health department’s broader effort to strengthen accountability, regulate healthcare delivery, and curb unsafe, unauthorized medical practices across the province. Ensuring compliance, improving governance, and protecting patient safety remain core objectives of the new directive.
