Princess Zahra Aga Khan awarded honorary Doctor of Laws by Concordia University

MONTREAL, CANADA: Princess Zahra Aga Khan, Pro-Chancellor of the Aga Khan University (AKU), has been conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) by Concordia University during its 2025 Spring Convocation ceremony. This distinguished honor celebrates her visionary leadership and lifelong commitment to advancing global health, education, and quality of life in underserved regions across the developing world.

Recognized as a global humanitarian, Princess Zahra’s work spans over two decades with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), where she has played a pivotal role in improving lives through sustainable health systems, educational excellence, and community-led development initiatives. The honorary degree underscores her influential contributions to building resilient societies and shaping a more equitable future.

“I dedicate this honor to humanitarians around the world who work tirelessly to bring progress and hope to vulnerable communities,” said Princess Zahra during her address at the ceremony.

In her inspirational convocation address to Concordia's graduating class, Princess Zahra urged students to be resilient and compassionate changemakers.

“Keep looking, keep trying, be resilient and determined in everything that you do. Go out and be agents of change and agents for good in whatever field you pick… and when you have gained knowledge and experience share those with others who need your help,” she advised.

This recognition also highlights the role of women leaders in global development and reinforces the values that underpin AKU and AKDN’s long-standing mission to empower communities through knowledge, ethics, and service.
