Karachi clinic secures international regenerative medicine milestone to promote longer, pain-free living

KARACHI: In a significant development for Pakistan’s healthcare sector, Al Khaleej Orthostem has officially been registered as an affiliate and examination center of the American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM), marking a major step toward internationally aligned regenerative healthcare education, certification, and clinical collaboration in Pakistan.

The announcement was made during a special ceremony held at Al Khaleej Orthostem Clinic, Karachi, attended by leading medical professionals, healthcare stakeholders, and invited guests. The event was honored by the presence of Asadullah Marwat, member of the American Board of Regenerative Medicine, who attended as Chief Guest and appreciated the initiative for contributing toward innovation and advancement in regenerative healthcare.

The affiliation positions Karachi among emerging regional centers focusing on regenerative and restorative medicine — a rapidly evolving field aimed at helping individuals live longer, healthier, and more active lives with reduced dependence on conventional pain management approaches.

Regenerative medicine focuses on repairing, restoring, and supporting damaged tissues and biological functions rather than only managing symptoms. The field includes therapies and technologies related to:
• Stem cell-based treatments
• Orthobiologics
• Tissue regeneration
• Cellular repair technologies

Dr Salman Gillani in his opening address, highlighted the global recognition of Stem Cell treatment. Globally, these approaches are increasingly being explored in orthopedics, chronic pain management, sports medicine, rehabilitation, degenerative conditions, diabetes, cancer and age-related mobility issues. He appreciated the efforts of Al Khaleej team as well. 

A key highlight of the event was the presence of renowned medical professional Prof. Ghaffar Billo, who shared his personal experience after undergoing stem cell therapy for knee-related issues. At the age of 90, he stated that he feels rejuvenated, continues his professional work actively, and remains pain-free without regular medication. Speaking at the ceremony, he remarked, “Use it or lose it,” emphasizing the importance of maintaining mobility and active living with age.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Khalid Mahmud Shah highlighted the scientific and research-driven foundation behind the procedures conducted at Al Khaleej Orthostem. He stated that the clinic’s regenerative approaches are backed by published data and evidence-based methodologies. “Through stem cells, we not only aim to manage diseases but address their root causes,” he said.

Chairman of Al Khaleej, Mr. Ali Dadabhai, along with several patients attending the event, also shared experiences regarding improved mobility, recovery, and pain-free lifestyles following regenerative treatment procedures.

Medical professionals attending the ceremony described the affiliation as an encouraging development for Pakistan’s healthcare ecosystem, particularly in strengthening specialized medical education and creating globally connected professional pathways in regenerative medicine.

The Karachi-based center emphasized its commitment to regenerative and restorative healthcare under the slogan: “Regenerate | Rebuild | Recover”. The institution also highlighted its association with Turkish patented technology integrated within its treatment framework.

Experts at the event stressed that while regenerative medicine continues to evolve globally, evidence-based practice, ethical oversight, and professional training remain essential for ensuring patient safety and maintaining long-term credibility within the field.

With rising cases of chronic musculoskeletal disorders, sports injuries, and age-related degenerative conditions in Pakistan, advancements in regenerative healthcare are increasingly being viewed as part of the future of rehabilitation, mobility restoration, and preventive healthcare planning.

The ceremony concluded with networking sessions and discussions focused on future collaborations, medical education initiatives, and the expanding role of regenerative medicine technologies in modern healthcare.
