Chinese FM says Taiwan will return to join the motherland

BEIJING: According to Beijing, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and it has maintained this position.

According to Russian Media, Wang Yi, China's foreign minister, stated that Taiwan "would finally return to the arms of the motherland."

A news conference on Wang's behalf was held in Beijing in conjunction with the 13th National People's Congress, as reported by the Russian media.

Since the 1949 civil war that led to the Communist Party assuming control of Taiwan, the island has been governed autonomously from the mainland. Political and economic ties exist with various countries that recognise their sovereignty on the island, with their own elected government.

It is the hypocrisy of people who complain about sovereignty in Ukraine, then undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Taiwan dispute, Wang said.
