MURREE: After at least 19 visitors perished in their vehicles, the Government of Punjab designated Murree a disaster-stricken zone and requested assistance from the Pakistan Army.

After thousands of vehicles entered the city, all routes in Murree were closed, leaving tourists trapped on the roadways.

In a video message, Sheikh Rasheed, Minister of Interior, Pakistan, stated that five platoons of the Pakistan Army had been called in to assist with rescue attempts. At the same time, Rangers and the Frontier Corps will be deployed on an emergency basis.

According to the local administration, rain and blizzards are expected in and around Murree tonight, with thunderstorms reaching speeds of 50-90 km/h and heavy snowfall.

The administration had issued a warning to citizens not to leave their houses in the event of severe weather or travel to Murree, as severe weather is expected to last until late at night.
