Karachi police baton-charges nurses

KARACHI: Police assaulted, baton-charged, and temporarily arrested nurses who attempted to march towards the Chief Minister (CM) House.

Protesting nurses had been conducting a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) for several days, and recently they decided to march towards CM House in support of their promotions and other concerns.

A considerable number of male and female nurses marched from the KPC on the platform of the Young Nurses Association Sindh (YNAS).

According to Aijaz Ali Kaleri, President, YNAS, when they got close to the Arts Council roundabout, the police allegedly used excessive force and detained several peaceful protestors.

Aijaz Ali Kaleri stated that they had fruitful conversations with the government officials and that they had halted their protest when Secretary, Sindh Health Department, issued a notification indicating approval of their demands. He further stated that the demonstrators left the PIDC crossing and returned to their tent near the KPC.
