JSMU celebrates independence with blood donation drive

KARACHI: In a remarkable act of patriotism and humanitarian spirit, Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) organized a blood donation drive as part of its Azadi fortnight celebrations. The event, held in collaboration with JSMU Diagnostic Lab, JPMC Gynaecology Department (Ward 9B), YASW Medical Community (YMC), and Patient Aid Foundation, received an overwhelming response from students, faculty, and staff who came forward to donate blood as a tribute to Pakistan’s independence.

This year, the students of JSMU decided to celebrate freedom with a unique gift—the gift of life. By participating in the blood donation campaign, they symbolized how the true essence of independence lies in serving humanity.

Vice Chancellor JSMU Prof Amjad Siraj Memon praised the initiative, stating:

“This blood donation drive is a reflection of our youth’s commitment to serving the nation. Just as our heroes fought for Pakistan’s independence, our students are fighting to save lives today.”

The drive also paid homage to Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos and Marqa-e-Haq, reminding participants that the freedom enjoyed today was achieved through courage, resilience, and sacrifice.

The donated blood will be used for critical patients, including women and children, ensuring that the spirit of Azadi is translated into hope and healing for those in need.

Head of JSMU Diagnostic Lab and Blood Bank Dr Binish Arif expressed gratitude to Principal SMC Professor Ambreen Usmani, Head of Gyne Ward 9B Dr Nighat Shah, Dr Rekha, and Dr Saima Aqil, Head of the Biochemistry Department, for their support. She also acknowledged all team members who made the campaign possible.

The successful blood donation drive not only strengthened the culture of volunteerism at JSMU but also set an example of how patriotism can be reflected in humanitarian service.
