PNA slams PNC over job quota

KARACHI- Provincial Nurses Association’s (PNA) Karachi chapter’s general secretary Abdul Wahid has criticized the Pakistan Nursing Council’s (PNC) decision of allocating job quota of 10 per cent for male and 90pc for female nurse in public sector hospitals across the Sindh.

He said that a meeting of PNC held recently had decided that recruitment of nurses under Sindh Public Service Commission in the province will be in accordance with new formula whereby 10pc male and 90pc female will be accommodated in government hospitals.

Terming the PNC’s decision `unjust’ and `illogical’, he said that the decision will render male nursing students jobless.
Suggesting that a quota of 50pc should be allocated for both male and female nurses in public sector hospitals and appointments must be made purely on merit basis.

He urged the PNC to withdraw its `discriminatory’ decision forthwith.

He demanded of Sindh government to immediately start recruitment process to fill 150 posts of nurses lying vacant in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center.

He also urged the government to enhance the allowances of nursing community on the pattern of federal government and other provinces.
