KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister retired Justice Maqbool Baqar and Federal Minister for Commerce, Industries & Board of Investment, Gohar Ejaz, engaged in discussions at CM House on Friday regarding the need for establishing more industrial parks in Karachi.

Terming industrialization a key solution for economic development, job creation, and overall prosperity, CM Baqar stressed the need to open new avenues for growth.

The meeting, attended by Chief Secretary Dr Fakhre Alam, Federal Commerce Secretary Sualeh Farooqi, Secretary Federal BOI Sohail Rajput, and others, discussed strategic plans to further industrial expansion in the region.

Gohar Ejaz informed the CM that a substantial allocation of 1,500 acres of land at Steel Mill had been earmarked for an Industrial Park, and its development had been entrusted to Chinese authorities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He said the federal government had devised a comprehensive plan to facilitate the establishment of Chinese industrial units within this allocated space.

In response, CM Baqar expressed satisfaction with the ongoing development of the Dhabeji Industrial Zone initiated by the provincial government and welcomed the prospect of creating another industrial park at Steel Mills.

He stressed the importance of promoting industrial units for producing goods exclusively for export, highlighting the necessity of exports for earning foreign exchange and staying competitive in the evolving industrial landscape.

The CM acknowledged that the proposed industrial park at Steel Mill could generate more than one million direct and indirect job opportunities while significantly boosting the export of finished goods.

The discussions underscored the collaborative efforts between federal and provincial authorities to promote industrial growth, employment, and economic advancement in the region.
