Pakistan focuses on inclusion, diversity on Braille Day 

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi, in his message for World Braille Day, observed annually on January 4, reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advancing the rights of persons with disabilities.  

Pakistan and the rest of the world observed World Braille Day to underscore the importance of enhancing access to knowledge for individuals with visual disabilities.

The day’s theme for the year 2024 is ‘Empowering Through Inclusion and Diversity.’

President Alvi said Pakistan endorsed the Marrakesh Treaty for visually impaired persons, enabling access to millions of books in Braille.

He mentioned that Pakistan has launched advanced training programs benefiting students, educators, and parents to create an inclusive environment in public spaces and facilitate access to information and education for individuals with visual impairments.

World Braille Day commemorates the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the inventor of the Braille writing system for blind and visually impaired individuals.

Despite advancements in technology, visually impaired and blind individuals continue to encounter challenges in leading independent lives.

The primary objective of World Braille Day is to promote Braille literacy and raise awareness about its importance in fostering inclusivity for individuals with visual disabilities.
