COVID-19 claims lives of two more patients

KARACHI: As many as two more patients of COVID-19 died overnight, lifting the death toll to 7,675, and 464 new cases of COVID-19 emerged when 15,003 tests were conducted.

Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, highlighted that two more patients of COVID-19 lost their lives, lifting the death toll to 7,675, constituting a 1.6 per cent death rate.

He revealed that 15,003 samples were evaluated, with 464 cases being found, resulting in a current detection rate of 3%. 

He went on to say that 7,184,058 tests were performed, yielding 482,413 diagnoses, with 97.1 percent of patients (488,264) recovering.

He inferred that 6,474 people were being treated at the time, with 6,278 in-home isolation, 42 in isolation institutions, and 154 in multiple hospitals. He went on to say that 148 patients' conditions were critical, with 16 being placed on ventilators.

As per the statement, out of 464 new cases, 339 have been detected from Karachi, including 144 from District South, 139 District East, 30 District Central, 13 District West, 12 District Korangi and 1 District Malir. Tharparkar and Shaheed Benazirabad had 13 each, Nausheroferoze 12, Matiari and Thatta 11 each, Tando Allahyar 9, Hyderabad and Jamshoro 8 each, Sukkur 5, Jacobabad and Umerkot 4 each, Badin, Sujawal and Ghotki 3 each, Kashmore, Sanghar, Shikarpur, Tando Muhammad Khan and Mirpurkhas had 2 each.

According to the Chief Minister of Sindh, 29,579,471 vaccinations were administered up until January 2, and 150,826 vaccines were inoculated in the last 24 hours, totalling 29,730,297 vaccines administered, accounting for 53.92 per cent of the vaccine eligible population. He then exhorted residents of the province to comply with Standard operating procedures.
