Medical equipment worth over Rs12.1m missing from Jinnah Hospital Lahore

LAHORE: A major case of mismanagement and alleged corruption has surfaced at Jinnah Hospital Lahore, where medical equipment and supplies worth more than Rs12.1 million have gone missing.

The Specialized Healthcare Department has issued a show-cause notice to Dr. Shabbir Hussain following the disappearance of valuable items from the hospital. According to the findings of a three-member inquiry committee, evidence of corruption was established against him.

Inquiry findings raise serious concerns

The inquiry revealed that essential hospital assets, including operation theater tables, hospital beds, air conditioners, wheelchairs, and furniture, had been deliberately removed. The missing equipment is collectively valued at over Rs12.1 million.

Officials stated that the disappearance of the medical supplies could not be due to negligence alone, indicating possible deliberate misappropriation. The show-cause notice further warned that the health department would take strict action within the stipulated timeframe.
